Comprehensive eye exams in Brooklyn — covered by most insurance.
We test your vision, check your eye health, and write your prescription at our Avenue U office. Most major plans accepted, coverage verified before your visit.
What to expect
Vision & refraction
We measure your current prescription accurately — whether it's your first pair of glasses or a routine update.
Eye health evaluation
Intraocular pressure check, retinal health review, and screening for glaucoma, cataracts, and macular changes.
Same-day prescription
Your written glasses prescription is ready before you leave. A contact lens prescription is separate: it needs a contact lens fitting, which has its own fee.
Eyewear selection
Browse 200+ frames in our Avenue U showroom right after your exam. Many plans include a frame or lens benefit; we verify yours before you choose.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a comprehensive eye exam take?
A full eye exam at Vision Palace Optical includes a vision screening, eye health evaluation, and time to review your results and prescription with the doctor. We don't rush.
Does insurance cover a routine eye exam?
Many vision and medical plans, including EyeMed, MetroPlus, UFT and BlueCross BlueShield, include routine eye exams, and New York Medicaid usually covers one every two years. Original Medicare does not cover routine eye exams, but does cover medically necessary ones, such as a yearly exam if you have diabetes. We verify your coverage before your appointment so there are no surprises. Call us at (718) 998-8400 to confirm your plan.
How much is an eye exam without insurance?
If you're paying yourself, a routine eye exam is $70 and a comprehensive eye exam is $180. Most patients use insurance, and we accept most major plans; call us at (718) 998-8400 and we'll check your coverage before your visit.
Is a contact lens fitting part of the eye exam?
No. A contact lens fitting is a separate fee from the eye exam: $200 for first-time contact lens wearers, and $120 to $150 for existing wearers, depending on the prescription. A glasses prescription is not a contact lens prescription; the fitting is how we write one. See our contact lens page or call us at (718) 998-8400.
Do I need an appointment for an eye exam?
We recommend booking through Zocdoc to reserve your slot and confirm your insurance coverage in advance. Same-day appointments are often available. Walk-ins are welcome subject to availability.
What should I bring to my eye exam?
Bring your insurance card, a photo ID, and your current glasses or contact lens prescription if you have one. If you wear contacts, bring the box or note the brand and prescription numbers.
