Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about appointments, insurance, eyewear, and services at Vision Palace Optical on Avenue U in Brooklyn.
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most major vision and medical insurance plans, including EyeMed, MetroPlus, Cigna, EmblemHealth, Aetna, Superior Vision, Healthfirst, Davis Vision, BlueCross BlueShield, UnitedHealthcare, Affinity, Medicare, and Medicaid. Coverage varies by individual plan, so we recommend calling us at (718) 998-8400 before your visit so we can confirm your specific benefits.
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way to book is through Zocdoc — you can see real-time availability, select your insurance, and confirm your appointment online. You can also call us directly at (718) 998-8400 Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. If you only need a DMV vision test, no appointment is necessary — walk-ins are welcome during regular hours.
Do you offer DMV vision tests?
Yes. We offer walk-in DMV vision tests for license renewal and new license applications. The test is $40 and takes just a few minutes. Once completed, we submit your eye test report directly to the DMV on your behalf — you don't need to handle any paperwork yourself.
What should I bring to my eye exam?
Please bring your insurance card, a photo ID, and your current glasses or contact lenses. If you have an existing prescription, bring it along or note your contact lens brand and prescription numbers. A list of any medications you take can also be helpful, especially if you have a history of eye conditions. If it's your first visit with us, arriving a few minutes early gives us time to get your information set up before the exam.
Do you see children for eye exams?
Yes, we provide pediatric eye exams for children of all ages. We generally recommend a first eye exam by age 5, though we encourage parents to schedule sooner if they notice any signs of vision problems — such as squinting, sitting too close to the TV, or difficulty reading. Uncorrected vision issues can affect a child's learning and development, so early detection makes a real difference.
Can I get contact lenses at Vision Palace Optical?
Yes. We fit a wide range of contact lenses including soft lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, and multifocal lenses. Dr. Julia Sheyko is also certified in Paragon CRT — a specialty overnight contact lens worn while you sleep that gently reshapes the cornea. With Paragon CRT, many patients can see clearly throughout the day without any glasses or contacts, making it a popular option for active patients who want freedom from daytime eyewear.
What designer frame brands do you carry?
Our showroom carries a curated selection of designer frames including Ray-Ban, Prada, Prada Linea Rossa, Burberry, Coach, Michael Kors, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, and Armani. You're always welcome to browse our collection in person — no appointment needed.
Can I pick out frames on the same day as my eye exam?
Absolutely. After your exam, you'll receive your prescription right away and can head straight to our frame showroom. Most patients choose their frames and lenses in a single visit, which means less time spent traveling back and forth. Most insurance plans include a frame and lens allowance, so you may be able to leave with everything covered.
Do you accept Medicaid for eye exams?
Yes, we accept Medicaid. Medicaid typically covers routine eye exams and, in many cases, a pair of eyeglasses as well. Coverage details can vary based on your specific Medicaid plan, so we recommend calling us at (718) 998-8400 to confirm your benefits before your visit.
Do you accept Medicare?
Yes, we accept Medicare. Medicare Part B covers medically necessary eye exams — for example, exams related to diabetes, glaucoma risk, or age-related macular degeneration. Routine refraction exams (to update a glasses prescription) are generally not covered under Part B. If you're unsure what your plan includes, call us at (718) 998-8400 and we'll help clarify your coverage before your appointment.
Where are you located and what are your hours?
We're located at 1723 Avenue U, Brooklyn, NY 11229, in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn. Our hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM. We are closed on Sundays. Street parking is usually available on Avenue U, and the office is accessible by public transit.
Still have a question?
Call us at (718) 998-8400 Monday – Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM, or book online through Zocdoc and we'll confirm everything before your visit.
