Progressive Lenses · Brooklyn, NY
One lens. Every distance.
Progressive lenses — sometimes called no-line bifocals — correct distance, intermediate (computer), and near (reading) vision in a single lens. There is no visible line and no jarring jump between zones. The optical power transitions smoothly from top to bottom.
They are the most natural-looking solution for presbyopia — the gradual loss of near-focus ability that typically begins in your mid-40s. If you find yourself holding your phone farther away to read it, progressive lenses are likely the right choice.
Varilux vs. Zeiss — which is right for you?
Varilux
The world's most-prescribed progressive lens, made by Essilor. Varilux lenses are engineered for wide, stable vision zones and minimal swim or sway — especially useful if you move your head a lot during the day.
- Excellent for active lifestyles
- Wide reading zone
- Shorter adaptation period for most wearers
Zeiss
Zeiss progressive lenses deliver razor-sharp optics with a customized design based on your exact prescription and frame measurements. Known for exceptional contrast and detail, especially in low-light conditions.
- Outstanding optical precision
- Tailored to your frame shape
- Ideal for detail-oriented work and night driving
Our optometrists will recommend the best lens design for your prescription and daily needs.
Who benefits from progressive lenses?
Presbyopia (40s+)
The most common reason. Near vision softens with age and progressives restore full-range clarity.
Bifocal wearers
Ready to eliminate the visible line? Progressives offer the same correction with a modern, seamless look.
Multi-taskers
Anyone who needs distance, screen, and reading vision throughout the day — in a single pair.
First-time glasses wearers
If your prescription includes both distance and reading correction, progressives are often the cleanest solution.
Frequently asked questions
What are progressive lenses?
Progressive lenses (also called no-line bifocals) have a seamless gradient from distance correction at the top to near correction at the bottom — with intermediate vision in between. Unlike traditional bifocals, there's no visible line and no abrupt jump between zones.
What is the difference between Varilux and Zeiss progressive lenses?
Both are premium brands, but they use different optical designs. Varilux (by Essilor) is the world's most-prescribed progressive and features wide, stable vision zones. Zeiss progressive lenses are also excellent, offering precise optics with a slightly different corridor design. Our optometrists will help you choose based on your prescription and lifestyle.
How long does it take to adjust to progressive lenses?
Most patients adapt in one to two weeks. The key is to move your head — not just your eyes — when switching between distances. Our team will walk you through proper wear technique at fitting.
Does insurance cover progressive lenses?
Most vision plans — including EyeMed, MetroPlus, Cigna, and BlueCross BlueShield — cover a standard lens with an upgrade option for progressives. Call us at (718) 998-8400 to confirm your benefits before your visit.
